Can I fast-track my build?

In NSW there are two ways to get a home project approved: the fast-track (a Complying Development Certificate, or CDC — a certifier approves it in weeks if your project follows the standard rules exactly) and the full council application (a Development Application, or DA — slower, but flexible). This page tells you which one your project can use. Pick your address, answer a few plain-English questions — we check your block's real zoning and hazard maps for you along the way. Professionals: the full pathways table has every clause on one page.

Where's the property?

Type the street address. We'll look up the block — its size, zoning and any hazard maps that matter — so most questions come with the answer already looked up for you. You can also and answer everything yourself.

By the way: small projects — decks, sheds, fences, small pools — are often “exempt development” and need no approval at all. This guide is for bigger projects, like a new home, duplex, granny flat or terraces.

How this works. Every question here comes from the actual NSW planning rules — tap “read the exact legal wording” on any step to see the law itself, and the link under each step takes you to the exact page it comes from. Your block's details are looked up live from official NSW Government maps; where something can't be looked up automatically, we say so and tell you where to check. This is a guide, not an approval — your certifier or council always makes the final call.
